Show Fort Duchesne and Randlett lines Pace First Two Weeks Of Play in Basin Baseball League Fort Duchesne's Utes and the- Randlett Braves were leading the pack at the end of two weeks of play in the Easin Baseball league. Both Fort Duchesne and Randlett Rand-lett had records of two wins and no losses going into the third week of play. This weekend, the Utes travel to Avalon for a Saturday Sat-urday afternoon game and Randlett Rand-lett plays host to Altamont in a Sunday tilt. Another game Saturday Sat-urday pits cellar dwellers Roosevelt Roose-velt and Bennett against each other oth-er on the Bennett home grounds (Myton). Last Saturday, Ft. Duchesne handed Bennett their second loss in as many games by tripping the Bennett team 7-1. The Utes collected col-lected four runs in the second inning, principally (5n consecutive home runs by second baseman Woody Harris and catcher Elmer Denver, and were never headed after that. Fort Duchesne picked up another run in the fourth inning in-ning and two more in the fifth, and Bennett scored their sole tally tal-ly in the fifth also. Jack Sheffer was the winning pitcher, and Russell Gingell of Bennett was tagged with the loss. Although outscored, Bennett out-hit out-hit the Utes, collecting eight bin-gles bin-gles to seven for the winners. Lorraine Lor-raine Bolton, Max Todd and Merrill Mer-rill Chandler each made two hits, for the losers, In a wild game played at the Fort Duchesne field, Randlett captured cap-tured their second win in two i outings by a 22-7 score over Roosevelt. Twenty-three miscues including includ-ing errors, passed ball and wild pitches on the part of Roosevelt, plus a strong hitting attack by the Braves proved to be too much for the Roosevelt nine. Glen Mecham was the winning pitcher for Altamont and Preston Searle was the loser. Altamont scored once in the first, third and seventh innings and chased two across the plate in the fourth. Avalon scored both their runs in the second frame. It " was a free-hitting battle, with Altamont collecting 14 and Avalon 12 safeties. Hershel Iorg, with five hits in six at bats, one of which was a triple, and Harry Fieldsted, with four for five three singles and a double led the winning attack. Ray Wardle, Tom Chandler and manager Lew Littleton each rapped three safeties safe-ties for Avalon. |
