Show Ellen Bracken Phone 62062 Works For Ph.D. In New York Mr. and Mrs. Jay Haslem and son, Randy, left, for Ithaca, New York, where Jay has an assistant-ship assistant-ship to study for a Doctor's Degree De-gree in Biochemical Genetics ati Cornell University. They spent the j past week visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Murray of Whiterocks and Mr. and Mrs. Von Haslem of Alterra. Mrs. Murray will be remembered as the former for-mer Joyce Hayes. The Murrays have been living in Ft. Collins, Colo, the past two years, where Jay recently completed his Master's Mas-ter's Degree at Colorado A. & M. Jay has been nominated to Sigma Xi, national honorary science research re-search fraternity. i Mrs. Elsie Secrest and son, Arthur, Ar-thur, of Moab, and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Showell of Salt Lake City, visited with their brothers and families, Marvin and Elton Kettle on Memorial Day. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Walquist, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Walquist, of Vernal, called on Ballard friends on Memorial Mem-orial Day. Brent and Clyde were former members of the Ballard ward. Mrs. Pearl ' Jenkins returned home recently after spending 3 months, visiting at Othello, Wash, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Jenkins. The Jenkins have a new baby. . Mrs. Gerald Smith was taken to the Rosoevelt Hospital recently suffering from pneumonia. Mrs. Bernell Buchanan and children, chil-dren, of Altamont, have been visiting at the home of Mr. and I Mrs. Alden White-Mr. White-Mr. and Mrs. Elmont Lemon, of Grantsville, have been recent vis- i itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Squire. GETS PROMOTION Word has been received that Robert Stolla has recently been made manager of the General Tire and Rubber Co. at Alhambra, California, Cal-ifornia, where he was transferred some time ago. Ted Campbell, of lone, Calif., was a caller at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Kettle one day last week. j Miss Janice Neilson, who was j a recent graduate from , Union High School, plans on entering business college in Denver, Colo, to take a business course. Mr. and Mrs, Farrell Mohlman and family, of Bountiful, spent Memorial weekend with relatives in Bailard and Roosevelt, and at Randlett with Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Calvert and two granddaughters, of Salt Lake City, have been recent visitors vis-itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shisler. Mr. and Mrs. David Lundberg are the proud parents of a baby boy, born to them at the Roosevelt Roose-velt Hospital, Friday, June 3. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reynolds of Salt Lake City, were callers at the Charles Binghams' on Memorial Memor-ial Day. The Reynolds were pioneers pio-neers of Alterra. Miss lone Mitchell, of Upalco, is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Gordan Evans, at present. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jeppson have been called to work in the stake MIA in the Special Interest group. The baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Merkley was blessed at Fast meeting on Sunday. Mr. Merkley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Merkley, from Duchesne, were visitors at meeting and with their son and family. Mr, and Mrs. Bernard Larsen and daughter, Maryanne, went to Logan last week for the graduation gradua-tion of Mrs. Larry Larsen from high school. They were accompanied accompan-ied by Mrs. Larsen's mother, Mrs. Violet McDonald, of Duchesne. She expects to remain in school during the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Bellon and family, of Roy, were visitors last weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Bellon. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sorenson are the proud parents of a baby girl, born on Tuesday, May 31 at the Roosevelt Hospital. GOLDEN GLEANER AWARD RECEIVED Miss Myrtle Collins received her Golden Gleaner award and pin at Fast meeting on Sunday. The award was presented to her by Pres. Clifford Drollinger, and her father, Bishop Golden Collins, pinned pin-ned her pin on her. Our congratulations congrat-ulations to Myrtle, first Ballard girl to receive this honor. Perry Bingham, who has completed com-pleted his second year at the U. S, A. C, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Von Haslem for a short time 'before leaving for Oakland, Oak-land, Calif., where he has employment employ-ment this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Collins and daughter, of Salt Lake City, visited visit-ed with Leslie's mother, Mrs. Mary Collins, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Betts last week. Their daughter remained for a longer visit. j We welcome Mr, and Mrs. Bill Newland back to our ward. They have been living in Salt Lake City the past winter. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Butcher and Mr. and Mrs. James Butcher and family spent Memorial Day in Jensen with relatives and old friends. Mr. and Mrs. James Butcher and family have now moved to Wvominp. where hp has employment. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Stolla and family, of Salt Lake City, were visitors over last weekend with Eric's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eric A. Stolla. Miss Clara Stolla accompanied ac-companied them to Salt Lake to visit for a short time. Mr. and Mrs. George Dean and family, of Salt Lake City, visited with home folks over Memorial weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Johnstun, who have been employed in Calif, for some time,, are visiting Mrs. Johnstun's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jenkins. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Angus, of j Grand Junction, Colo., have been recent visitors at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Leland Angus. Bruce and Leland are brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bracken and son, left Tuesday, May 31, for their home in lone, Calif. They planned on visiting Guy's brothers, broth-ers, Karl and Duane, and sister, Rhea Pool and families in Salt Lake City enroute. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Eldredge, of Provo, are visiting a few days at the home of Glen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eldredge. RELIEF SOCIETY SOCIAL HONORS FORMER SECRETARY A Relief Society closing social was held in the chapel Wednesday afternoon, June 1. It was also to honor Mrs. Fannie Todd, who has been released as secretary, because of leaving the ward. She was given a beautiful gift. Six Relief Society teachers who had attained 100 visiting were given books as tokens of their work. These were Erna Stolla, Dorothy Kettle, Florell Collins, Juliana Butcher, Verda Rasmussen and Virgia Page, Games were played under the direction of Vida Betts and Ardis Kettle. Dainty refreshments refresh-ments were served to some twenty twen-ty members. Sunday School monthly Preparation Prepar-ation meeting was held at the chapel Wednesday, June 1, with nine officers and teachers present. pres-ent. Leland Wiscombe presented the Faculty lesson. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Gneitting and two children, of Lewiston, Idaho, came down to attend the wedding and reception of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Maxfield, the former for-mer Barbara Hullinger. Miss Dianne Hullinger, who has been a student at the USAC, was also j home for the occasion. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Maxfield a happy journey through life. . BUCK VISITS FARM Monday morning about 5:30, a big buck deer was seen in the pasture with the milk cows on the farm of George Bracken at Alterra. The deer when seen was galloping off toward Uinta River, Word has been received from Sherman Asay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Asay, who is laboring as an LDS missionary in South America, that he plans on continuing con-tinuing his mission there until September. Sherman has been gone two and a half years now. SUNDAY SCHOOL PRESENTS PROGRAM Sunday School had charge of the meeting Sunday evening with the following teachers giving talks: Phillip Merkley, Spencer Squire, Nita White, Merle Gines, Ellen Bracken and Leland Angus. Ned and Allen Gines sang a duet, accompanied by Pat Gines. |
