Show ' ( Initial Plans For U.D.I.C Announced' This Weeli" " Initial plans for the Uintah Basin Bas-in Industrial Convention to be held in Roosevelt August 3-5 were announced this week by UBIC president, L. F. Hutchings. According to Mr. Hutchings, the festival this year should be one-of one-of the biggest and best in the history his-tory of the event. Hutchings and the UBIC committee have made-preliminary made-preliminary steps in preparation: for the forthcoming convention The UBIC is an annual non-commercial educational convention, first started in 1923. Clubs, organizations, and sever- ' al individuals have already been contacted to formulate plans for the various events and activities that will take place during the three-day convention. Helping Mr. Hutchings on the committee are: vice-presidents, Paul Murphy, Ben-nie Ben-nie Schmiett, Ellen Rawlings, Merlin Mer-lin Sullivan; treasurer, Adelyn Logan; honorary vice-president, Josephine Yergensen, and Wayne Malin is in charge of concessions. The majority of the publicity will be handled by the Roosevelt Standard and Uintah Basin Record, Rec-ord, and also the Salt Lake City newspapers. Although none of the names have been announced, a number of speakers are to be on hand. A parade, which the committee is hoping will be the best ever, will begin the activities on opening dav. No talent show will be presented present-ed this year as in the past, but an All-Star show, with participants partici-pants invited, will take its place. Farm and other mechanical equipment will constitute the industrial display. Other events for which preparations prepar-ations are being made are: a fashion fash-ion show, a dancing show, sports events, a teen-age program, community com-munity singing, a Home-coming celebration, a marble tournament for youngsters, a doll show, and a pet show. A Queen will be elected to reign over the three-day convention. conven-tion. Miss Utah not yet named has been invited, and "Story Princess" Prin-cess" will also be present. An agricultural group plans to conduct discussions on farm problems, prob-lems, and there will be a ladies' department, consisting of ideas for homemaking. People who may have a desire to erect a concession conces-sion booth should contact Wayne Malin. Mr Hutchings reminded officials of UBIC to watch for an announcement an-nouncement of a meeting to be made in the near future. |
