Duchesne 8 1 Firemen 8 1 Myton 7 2 Second Ward 5 4 Roosevelt 5 4 Third Ward 5 4 Neola 3 6 Fourth Ward 2 7 Montwel 1 8 Ballard 1 8 Results Aug. 2 to 8 Ballard 16, Montwel' 9 Firemen 20, Second Ward 8 Fort Duchesne 8, Fourth Ward 1 Firemen 7, Myton 4 A well balanced softball team from Fort Duchesne easily disposed of the Fourth ward Monday night 8 to 1, to maintain their place as a contender for top honors in the Rooseyelt City-Church league. The Utes must meet an inspired Firemen Fire-men team, who upset a favored Myton ward team Monday 7-4, to end in a tie for first place, and drop the Myton team to third. According to Gordon Eldredge, recreational director for the city, tentative plans are set for the playoff on Monday night, August 15 at 7:30 between the Utes and Firemen. The winner will receive a trophy for the honor that will come from winning the title. Made 15 Hits Big Lou Mallory, winning pitcher pitch-er for the Utes from the Fort, not only was in his usual top form on the mound Monday night as he limited Fourth to 3 hits, but he led his mates in the hitting department with two bingles, one being a home-run. Rex LaRose, Boots LaRose, Ross Iorg, Dave Forcloud and Milton Denver all' came through with a pair of hits each. Lou Taylor was the losing pitcher. The Firemen backed up their slow-ball pitcher, Lyle Pitt, with some fancy fielding and a dozen big hits to take Myton ward in a game that elevated them to a tie with the Utes. Scott Nickell hit a timely home-run to lead the Firemen. Nickel! and Pitt each hit a pair for the winners. Rus Gin-gell Gin-gell was the leading hitter of the night as he collected three, one being a home-run. Devere Iorg also al-so hit a pair for Myton. The Firemen trounced Second ward on Aug. 2, 20-8, to help them along the way for a tie. Ballard ward, finally won a ball game as they dumped Montwel 16-9. Aaron Rasmussen was the winning pitcher and the heavy hitter as he came through with a homer and a single. Larsen was the losing pitcher. |
