Show Haul Gas In Wagons Mr. Ashton recalls the days when gasoline was - hauled in horse-drawn wagons in a 500 gallon gal-lon tank from Price. H, L. Lison-bee Lison-bee was the original driver of the team. Then the Ashton Company became the first outfit to bring gasoline into the Basin by tank truck. The fuel was hauled from Price in fifty gallon drums. The first locker to be built in the Uintah Ba.sin was constructed at the rear of the market in 1944. The locker section accomodates 300 individual locker compartments compart-ments and are rented to' customers on a yearly basis. Clarence is one of two original members of the Commercial Club still living in Roosevelt. He was a city councilman from 1922-1924, and mayor of the town from 1924-1928. 1924-1928. In 1952, Mr. Ashton became state senator and held the office for two years. He was made county attorney j in 1918, and has, at different times, been director of the Commercial Com-mercial Club and President of the Lions Club. "Ashton's," as the store is named, carries a complete line of groceries, meats, hardware and building supplies. , ' |
