Show Roosevelt Legion Team Dumps Region Winners By Dick Ruppel A highly improved Roosevelt American Legion junior baseball team turned back the Division Nine champs from Altamont on August 3, as a part of the UBIC celebration. The game was a postseason post-season exhibition game, and the final score was 7-5. Altamont won the district title a copule of weeks ago. Shirl Rawling.s lead the victors in the hitting circle with two doubles and a single. Carl. Lid-dell Lid-dell added a couple of singles to aid the Roosevelt cause. Heaviest hitters for Altamont were I. Iorg and L. Hansen. Iorg pitched a beautiful game for the losers. Until the last of the seventh inning Gary McDonald had held the visitors to three runs and two hits. Then all of-a sudden Altamont filled the bases ' with no one out. At this point Roosevelt Roose-velt pulled Gary after his magnificent magni-ficent job of pitching and sent in Ken Benson to hold Altamont. Ken put out the fire by catching catch-ing two men out at home plate, with outstanding defensive play by Rawlings and C. Pack. However, How-ever, a .single by G. Drollinger after two had walked to again fill the bases gave Altamont two tallies- Then Bensen under trrific pressure fanned the next batter to face him to end the Altamont threat. This was Roosevelt's last game of this season, as they ended up with a 4-2 standing in league play. Next year the boys will be gunning for the league trophy because be-cause they have the material and the enthusiasm. So, look for next year's ball games. |
