Show Uintah Otes Hand Cougars Second Loss Of Season An injury-ridden Cougar football foot-ball squad from Union High School bowed to a victory-mid Uintah High team at Vernal Wednesday afternoon 14-6 in a game that was" filled with penalties pen-alties and rule infractions. The Vernal loss was the second sustained sus-tained by the Cougars in six days, having lost a 19-0 game to Moab at Moab last Friday. With six regulars watching the game from the sidelines, and another top-hand getting the old heave-ho by the officials in th- second quarter, Coach Elden Wright played the Utes wjth half a dozen sophomores and substitutes. Sitting on the sidelines side-lines with injuries were John Benson, Doyle Huber, Duane Richens, Albert Collotzi. Gordon Gor-don Eldredge and Scott Edring-ton. Edring-ton. And , Don Killian, classy full-back, was benched when he had a run-in with the referee. Union drew first blood when little "Packy" Fenn, sophomore scat-back, ambled 15 yards to' score after two passes had set up the play. Doyle Huber was sent in to try for the extra point, which was no good. Following Fol-lowing on the heels of a pushing penalty against Union, the Utes came to life, and with Charlie Wells lugging the ball Uintah scored, and Freestone converted, and the Utes led 7-6 at the half. , The : two teams played on fairly even terms until mid-way in the last quarter when Uintah intercepted a Union pass and o.i a cut-back play. Wells scored from the 14-yard line. Freestone again converted and the Utes t snared -their first win of the season and practically eliminated elimin-ated Union from retaining their 1951 region title. One possibility for the Cougars Cou-gars to come through would be for Uintah to beat Moab next week, and then for Union to beat the Satans on Oct. 24 when they come here for the final game of the season. With two weeks to heal their wounds, the Cougars should be in top shape for Moab on the 24th. |
