Show Household Scrapbook by Roberta Lee Ink Slain Remedies Printing Print-ing ink stains may be removed by rubbing thoroughly with lard, and then washing with soap and warm water. For writing inks, try washing with soap and water first. Then try cornmeal or salt or French chalk of talcum powder, pow-der, brushing off as the ink is absorbed and repeating. If this is not successful, soak the stains in milk for one or two days, changing the milk as it becomes discolored. Or, rub the stains with a cut lemon, squeezing on some of the juice and rinsing frequently. Bone Handles The bone1 handles of knives, forks and such utensils can be cleaned by I using a paste made of lemon1 juice and whiting. j Oak Furniture Try applying apply-ing hot linseed oil with a flan-; nel cloth to bring back the lus-i ter on oak furniture. Brass Articles Dark spots can be removed from brass articles ar-ticles by sponging with a cloth dipped into buttermilk. Wash in warm water and then in hot soapy water, and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Added Length The effect of added length can be imparted to the small windows if the over-drapes over-drapes are allowed to extend clear the floor. Plain color adds to the length also. Dull Buttons If buttons on a garment have become dull from repeated washings, try using a colorless nail polish on them. Acid On Marble Do not allow al-low acids such as grapefruit or lemon to come in contact with a marble surface. Such stains can sometimes be removed with ammonia am-monia if applied immediately. Milk If the milk has a slight taste of scprch, remove this taste by putting the pan into cold water and adding a pinch of salt to the milk, - |
