Show City Officials Ignore W. P. A. Strike Threat City officials ignored a strike threat on the local city water system sys-tem project by WPA workers this week and to date the construction is going1 forward under the original program. The strike was threatened for Tuesday. The trouble is evidently the work of a few agitators in the district and the matter was brought to a climax when it became necessary to work a few hours over time in running the cement on the new settling tank floor and walls in order or-der to make a good job. Purported representatives of the workers demanded double time for overtime which was refused "by the Provo offices, and in turn refused by the city when it was asked to pay half of the over time charge. Monday evening Charles Wheth-terbee, Wheth-terbee, Legrand Beck and Lalfis Baxter as a committee, met with the council members prior to the calling of the council meeting into regular session and requested the removal of William H. Roberts as project foreman. Individual council coun-cil members declined to accept the committee's demands and the matter mat-ter was not made an official matter of the council meeting. |
