Show Gymnasium Roof Destroyed By Cyclone Reconstructed Reconstruction of the American Fork high school gymnasium roof which was "blown off. by a near cyclone cy-clone in May, was completed Wednesday Wed-nesday under the able direction of John Hunter, local builder. The job required fifteen days time and the services of thirty carpenters and workmen at various times during the construction. It was necessary to run a reinforced rein-forced cement couping around the top of the walls to have something strong enough to tie the roof to. A "hip" roof was used this time on the north end of the gym instead of the gable end which was partly to blame for the damage from the storm. XJonsiderable work was also done on the interior of the building. The walls in the north end of the gym all had to be repaired and replaster-ed. replaster-ed. About a third of the gym proper prop-er also had to have a covering of new plaster and the gym floor and supports on the north end was repaired re-paired from damage caused by the falling in of the north walls. The total cost of the repair job will run slightly under $4,000, it is reported. The gymnasium building was constructed con-structed on contract by Peter Gron-man Gron-man of Provo, under plans prepared prepar-ed by Joseph Nelson, -archetect and would likely have stood for a life time if the wind had not have struck directly from the north, forcing the gable end in and submitting the open roof to tthe terrific blasts for hours. |
