Show Baptists to Honor Houston March Ij DALLAS, Texas Baptists all' over the United States will join in j a religious celebration of the birth- I day of General Sam Houston, Sunday, Sun-day, March 1. I Houston's birthday falls on Texas j Independence Day, March 2nd but i services will be held in all Baptist churches the preceding Sunday. In his letter to 2,000 Baptist congregations congre-gations Rev. Howard Williams, secretary sec-retary of the Texas Baptist Convention, Con-vention, urges union services in every ev-ery community where there are two or more Baptist churches. Special services will be held in First Baptist Church, Washington, D. C, which Houston attended when he was United States senator, at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, whose founder Dr. Rufus G. Burleson Burle-son baptized General Houston and at Independence, Texas, where he joined the church. . The Texas Centennial Exposition which is cooperating with the Texas Baptist Convention in plans for this religious observance will have a $50,000 Hall of Religion, a spacious and beautiful building for free exhibits ex-hibits by all denominations. In the Baptist section of the structure . special stress will be laid on Hous- I ton's services to his state and to the Republic of Texas of which he was the first elected president. |
