Show Serving of Hot Soup to Students To Start By next Monday, the 9th, all will be in readiness to start serving hot soup to children in the grade schools under the W. P. A. project sponsored sponsor-ed by the Parent-Teachers Association Associa-tion of this city. Accomodations for 300 children already have been secured. se-cured. Bowls, spoons and oil cloth mats have been provided and the women who have been employed to take care of the cooking and serving are ready to commence. Attention is called that a number of parents signified their willingness willing-ness to P. T. A. officers to donate produce such as potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. The cellar of Rulon Nicholes has been procured for the storage of these vegetables. If there are people who have vegetables to donate and who cannot get them to the cellar, kindly contact any member mem-ber of the committee and arrangements arrange-ments will be made to have them called for. The committee consists of Mrs. Leo Meredith. Jesse 1VT Walker, Reed H. Robinson, Dr. James Chadwick, Mrs. Melvin W. Grant and Mrs. Vern Chipman. If there are parents who desire to assist and who haven't vegetables, cash contributions may be made direct di-rect to the P. T. A. The project was created mainly to care for children who because of the distance they reside from the school have to carry cold lunches. A hot bowl of soup with perhaps some fruit once a week in addition to the sandwich the children are required to bring from home will do much towards giving these growing kiddies the energy building foods they so much need. The P. T. A. officers have been asked by parents already if children chil-dren residing reasonably close to the school can remain and receive the soup also. No child will be turned away but inasmuch as the accomodations accomo-dations so far are only for three hundred it is hoped the parents will cooperate to the extent -that those children to whom going home is an impossibility will not be deprived of this privilege. However where parents par-ents are to be away for the day and desire the child to remain, by giving giv-ing proper notice, arrangements can be made, states Mrs. Meredith, P. T. A. president. |
