Show dDMitimfflirfieg ' ' ' " 1- ' .' 'v - v,fl ... RayCTyaeBaum ' 1 Ray Clyde "Ike" Baum, a former worker in the Park City mines, died in Salt Lake on April 17 after a lingering illness. He was 79. After living in Park City, Baum began a long wide-ranging career in construction across the West. He was born on Feb. 27, 1906 in Midway, to the late Alva John and Susie Elizabeth Bunnell Baum. He moved to Park City when he was four years old, in 1910. He went to work in the Silver King Mine at 16 years of age, after his father's death. He worked as a hand mucker, mule and horse skinner, and ran the hoist at the Keystone Mine for Andy Hurley. He also worked at the Mt. Con and Blackhawk mines in Butte, Montana, and in Bingham at the Apex. He married Thelma Gladys Nelson on Aug. 16, 1927. They had four children and later divorced. He married Edith L. Brown on July 3, 1944. He worked on construction of dams (Boudler Dam, the Lucky Peak Dam near Boise) and tunnels, including the Duchesne Tunnel above Kamas. He worked in Colorado, Wyoming, California, Chile, Ecuador and Australia. He was working in Honolulu at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He i followed this with five years service in World War II, where he used his mine rescue training to save lives. V s He also dug wells in Nevada, and leased several gold and copper mines. Baum, an ardent sportsman, retired ini974. He is survived by his wife; sons Ksfy Baum (Battle Mountain, Nevada), Jean Baum (Winnemucca, Nevada) and foster-son Reuben E. Garbett i (Phoenix, Arizona); 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was ; preceded in death by his first born, Doris Elaine, in 1928, and son Ray in 1932. i Funeral services were held Saturday at Redwood Memorial Estates (6500 South Redwood Road) . Intermfent was in Midway Cemetery. James B. Lynn James Belden Lynn, 77, died April 23 in Murray, Utah. He was born in Park City on Dec. 27, 1907 to James Albert and Alice Yates Lynn. He married Zelma Hatch on Aug. 5, .1929. The marriage later was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked for the Biological Survey and the Fish and Wildlife Service for 40 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and sports. He spent winters in Arizona. i He was a member of the LDS Church, Henefer First Ward, where he held the office of elder. He was in the presidency of the Echo branch and worked in scouting and the Sunday school. He is remembered for his devotion to his family, his story telling and his sense of humor. Survivors are his wife, of Echo; daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Janice) Freking, Salt Lake; Mrs. Jack (Verla) Winters, Murray; and Mrs. Bert (Diana) Jenson, Myton; sons, Wallace Lynn, Nampa, Idaho; Ferris Lynn, Caldwell, Idaho; and Dee Lynn, Salt Lake; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Albertes Kennedy, Salt Lake, and brother Fred Lynn, Mona. A funeral service will take place Friday at 11 a.m. at the Henefer Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Coalville tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 and tomorrow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mona Cemetery at 3 p.m. |
