Show Soccer club turns tables on St. Joseph in Ogden by Dave Adler The Park City High School soccer club gained a measure of revenge Wednesday, April 17, when it combined sound defense and excellent excel-lent passing to win a road game against St. Joseph of Ogden, 4-1 . "They beat us twice last year, and so this was a big win for our team," said Miner coach Jess Schaub, who saw his club improve its record on the year to 2-1-1. The Miners, led by Greg King's pair of goals, exploded early in the game, and took a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half before St. Joseph scored a goal. But Schaub attributed the victory to "solid defense and good passing." pas-sing." "We got a lot of compliments for our play," said Schaub. "We played all parts of the field very well." . - Schaub credited goalie Joel Chaffee with preserving the victory margin on the strength of "some great saves. Joel has played very consistently for us all season, and against St. Joseph he saved what would have been some sure goals." In addition to King's goals, the Miners got scoring help from Eric Olsen and Kyle Lowther who tallied one goal each. But it "was a great team effort," said Schaub. "I was very pleased with our play and the kids are playing with a lot of confidence." The Miners were scheduled to host Rowland Hall April 24 in a bid to avenge an earlier 3-1 road loss at the hands of that Salt Lake team. |
