Show , .,,1 .',,1 lr Miner freshman is diamond in rough A young, inexperienced Park City High School team, paced by Jeff Keye, finished fifth Monday in a field of six teams in a season-opening season-opening meet at Morgan. Keye, one of three freshmen on the Park City team, was the lone bright spot as he fashioned a 78, the second best score in the field. Medalist honors went to Brian Summerhays who fired a 75 to pace Wasatch to a first-place finish. On a day which alternately featured rain, hail and snow, the Wasatch High School's winning total was 314. Union was second at 326, Evanston third at 346, Morgan fourth at 352 and Park City next at 372. Rowland Hall St. Mark's golfers did not finish. "We're just trying to rebuild the program," said Miners' coach Paul Willard. "We've got three freshmen and two seniors and we're just trying to improve with each match." Behind Keye's 78 were Dusty Mandrell and Kurt Coalson, who carded 97s. Erich Fouse shot a 100, Robert Jones a 103 and Tony Howells a 107. Only the four low scores are counted in the team total. The Miners play again Monday at Wasatch. |
