Show Park City sells out to raise money for KPCW by Kick Brough So you've heard cynics say that Park City is for sale? Well, it is, to loyal supporters of local radio station KPCW! Once again, the Volunteer Air Force is going to auction off Park City as a winter fund-raising activity, this year from Feb. 13 to 15. More than $25,000 in merchandise will be sold off during KPCW's radio programs, at open-house receptions for the station and at a climactic party in the Rusty Nail. What's being sold off? "Everything "Every-thing from banana splits to trips to diamonds and furs," said KPCW development director Susan Flne-gan. Flne-gan. You can bid on $5 items or a couple of furs one each donated by Moutain Rose and the Chalk Garden, said KPCW general manager Blair Feulner. There will be no minimum bid on any item, he said. Maybe the most interesting auction item, Feulner said, is from resident Ira Sachs. He is donating a matched pair of 1970 Cadillac convertibles. You could also secure the services of a local attorney, who has offered to make out wills for a lucky couple. The station will sell a trip for four to Tahoe, which will include ski passes and lodging. Another trip is a golfing package for two to St. George. (See KPCW's ad on Page B8 for a list of sponsors ai d the items they're contributing to the auction. ) Items will be sold off on the radio, three every hour, all three days from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. This was done last year, Feulner suid. bul one change lias been made to the format. Bidding for oach item will be open for four minutes, instead of the entire hour. Last year, he said, bidders would not call in until the end of the hour. "The phone lines were lit up just before the CNN news." On Wednesday, Feb. 13, and Thursday, Feb. 14, the public is invited to open-house receptions at KPCW's new studios in the bottom floor of the Marsac Building. Wine and cheese will be available at the events, held from 5 to 7 p.m. During each reception, Feulner said, five special high-buck items will be sold off by auctioneer Dave Novelle. The Rusty Nail party, at the Park City Ski Area, will start Friday night at 8 p.m. Even though it will include a silent auction and a regular sale, Feulner said the main idea here is to put on a party. Joe Muscolino and his band will play from 9 to 12. One important thing he said, is to make your reservations now for the party. KPCW had to turn away 100 people at the door last year. Cost is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Feulner said he hopes the auction can be the traditional winter fund-raising event for the station. "One pledge drive (in the summer) and one auction a year we feel is certainly enough," he said. The goal this time around is to raise about $10,000. The money will go to pay for the new studio arraiigi'im'i.ts and KPCW's TV channel. Feulner said. |
