Show ChamberBureau members attend meeting-planner seminar Jim Jones, one of the best-known and respected meeting planners in the country, was in Park City this week to speak at a seminar coordinated by the Park City Chamber Bureau. The seminar was put on in conjunction with HRM Marketing Corporation which has been contracted con-tracted by the Chamber Bureau to market Park City to corporate meeting planners nationwide. The seminar was attended by members of the Chamber Bureau staff and the sales staffs of member convention properties. Marty Mel-cher, Mel-cher, marketing director for the Chamber Bureau, said the seminar was extremely well received. "The program was such a success that we are looking at bringing Mr. Jones back this spring and opening the seminar up to more Chamber Bureau members," she said. Jones, who has trained more meeting planners than any other person in the world, addressed such . topics as how to deal with different kinds of personalities, and the importance of understanding who you are selling to. In conjunction with the seminar, employees from HRM Marketing were in town over the weekend for a Park City FAM tour. Melcher said the purpose of the tour was to familiarize the HRM people with the community and also to give Chamber Bureau convention property pro-perty members a better feel for what HRM has to offer. HRM is a private corporation representing approximately 40 hotsls and resorts. At the present time, Park City is the only member in which HRM represents the entire community rather than a single property. "The relationship started out as somewhat of an experiment for both parties, but the results so far have surpassed our greatest expectations," expecta-tions," said Melcher. "The feedback we have received from those properties involved is very positive and the relationship was strengthened considerably through the seminar and FAM tour this week," she added. Representatives from the ChamberBureau Cham-berBureau and member convention properties will have an opportunity to apply the techniques learned at the seminar as they attend shows in Dallas and Houston next week. The shows, put on by HRM. will include a new segment titled "Systems T.A.," geared towards travel a- gents. "More and more travel agents are booking meeting facilities for their corporate clients and this new segment is aimed at showing these people what we have to offer," said Melcher. In other Chamber Bureau news, Melcher reported the summer out-of-state advertising campaign is now underway and is receiving great support from the community. "We feel we have a very strong campaign that will begin to build the kind of image that will draw more out of state visitors here during the summer season," she said. The ChamberBureau 1985 Membership Mem-bership Drive is still going strong with the following businesses individuals indi-viduals joining this week: Park Plaza Resort, Minors Only, The Resort Center, Summit Savings & Loan, Dolly's, Quadriga of Utah, Utah County ConventionVisitors Bureau, Corporation for Professional Education, Educa-tion, Eagar and Company, Coleman Land Company, Park City Sleigh Company.
