Show Certified instructors to bring avalanche clinic to Park City Two certified instructors from the American Avalanche Institute will offer an in-depth seminar in Park City this weekend. The three-day event will include slides, films, lectures and field work relating to avalanches. Rick Wyatt, a prominent local climber, who also is known for making the first nordic descent of Grand Teton, will be one of the instructors. He is currently employed employ-ed by the Utah Department of Transportation to monitor the possibility of avalanches which could affect the highways in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Al Soucie of the Utah Back Countrv Avalanrhe Center in Salt Lake City will also teach. The cost of the course is $85. Participants must pre-register by Thursday, Feb. 7. The seminar will begin with a slide show lecture about avalanche dynamics dyna-mics and snow types at 7 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Building. Saturday morning participants will meet at 8 a.m. at the Memorial Building for a discussion of safe route selection and basic snow types. At 10:30 a.m. the classes will move out iiito the field for a demonstration and practice of seaixh-and-rescuc procedures. The afternoon schedule calls for a demonstration of snow pit analysis. After dinner the group will gather again for a movie aobut mountain weather conditions. Sunday classes will begin again at the Memorial Building at 8 a.m. with a continued discussion about search-and-rescue techniques. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. participants will practice group search techniques with probe lines and Pieps. They will also get a chance to learn more about snow pack stability. Upon completion of the course participants will receive certification from the American Avalanche Institute. The seminar is being sponsored by the Park City Recreation Department and White Pine Touring Center. "This will offer much more of an in-depth understanding of avalanches than the earlier seminars we had in Park City.
