Show Nannette's of New York now graces Main Street Marketplace of Park City 1j t s'- m ) v 1 .) it 1.MI...MM- 1 , ' by Nan Chalat The interior of the Main Street Marketplace is still a maze of construction activity, but Nannette Holmberg isn't fazed in the least. Even though patrons of her elegant boutique often have to circumvent ladders, electricians and heavy equipment to reach the carpeted entrance, she is taking it all in stride. Holmberg is used to being in the forefront. Twelve years ago she opened one of the first stores in Trolley Square in Salt Lake, and she recently took the lead again as one of the first shops to open in the new Triad Center, also in Salt Lake. Now Nannette's of New York is an oasis of fashion inside the bustling, almost finished mall on Main Street in Park City. Holmberg is a Salt Lake native with a New York flair. She left Salt Lake to study at the Fashion Institute in New York City, concentrating on design. When she returned to Utah she opened a custom bridal boutique ' and ended up designing everything from swimsuits and ski wear to evening gowns. In time she opened a second store which featured ready-made ready-made but carefully hand-picked clothing and accessories. But for the last two years Holmberg said she has had her eye on Park City. "I've always been fascinated with Park City. It is such a unique town. My husband and I have watched the growth in the area and when the mall was being built we felt it would be an excellent opportunity to become part of the community." Despite construction delays which postponed the opening of Nannette's until after Christmas, she said she is still "excited to be here." Delays are to be expected, she said. Nannette Holmberg (right) helps a customer slip into something a little bit more comfortable. Holmberg recently opened Nannette's of New York at the Main Street Marketplace. But once her storefront on the main level of the new mall was completed Holmberg didn't waste any time moving in. Last week she unpacked crates of Norma handknit Canadian sweaters, Alexis Kirk sterling silver jewelry, and designer wear from all over Europe. "I look for unusual lines, and when I buy, I don't buy 20 of one item. Sometimes I'll only buy one," she said. "I buy a lot from Germany (Escada is one of her favorite designers there) because of the quality of the workmanship." Next week Holmberg is expecting a shipment of furs, but the racks are already filled with lamb velour coat, angora and leather sweaters, French slacks and one-of-a-kind evening gowns. "I've just been waiting for people to be interested in clothing again and now I believe they are," Holmberg said. Nannette's of New York is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily except Sundays. The hours on Sunday are noon to 5 p.m. The shop is located inside the Main Street Marketplace on the street level, straight ahead from the main entrance. |
