Unless otherwise noted, events listed below will take place in Salt Luke City. MOVIES Actress Jeanne Moreau made her directoral debut with "Lum-iere, "Lum-iere, "an examination of women and their relationship to the world. The film will be shown Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Salt Lake City Library, as part of the "Feminine Touch French Sytle series. Admission is $2.50 for the 7 p.m. show. The library is at 209 East 500 South. At the Blue Mouse: "The Last Metro" is the tale of a theater troup in France during World War II, from Francois Truffaut; "Swann in Love" stars Jeremy Iron in a film from the first volume of Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past" ; Charles Martin Smith stars in "Never Cry Wolf," a stunning outdoor adventure; and Led Zeppelin plays in "The Song Remains the Same." The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. The City Library continues its series of Great Romances, which wouldn't be complete without a Garbo picture. In "Conquest," she plays Polish countess Marie Walewska, who bears a child by Napolean (Charles Boyer) in this 1937 film. It plays on Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). The Utah Media Center continues its Clint Eastwood series with "Every Which Way But Loose." Eastwood spoofs his image, playing a bare-knuckles brawler involved with an elusive country singer (Sondra Locke), an orangutan named Clyde and the middle-aged motorcycle gang, the Black Widows. It plays on Feb. 8 (7:30 p.m. ) 9 (5 :30 and 9 :30 p.m.) andl0(7:30p.m.). The Center also begins its Truffaut festival with "Jules and Jim," maybe his most famous film. Jeanne Moreau plays the woman who captivates two friends, the German writer Jules (Oskar Werner) and Frenchman Jim (Henri Serre.) It plays on Feb. 8 (9:30 p.m.), 9 (7:30 p.m.) and 10 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.). Films from the "Best of the Festival" will be shown Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Admission is $2.50 per screening. And finally, Martin Ritt's film "Sounder" illustrates the quiet heroism of a Southern black family coping with life in the '30s. It stars Cicely Tyson and Paul W infield. The free showing is at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13. All films are shown in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center, at 20 South West Temple. For further information, call 534 1 158. MUSIC It's going to be a busy week for the Utah Symphony. First, the orchestra under Charles Ketchum presents an "Up With Music" youth concert Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m., with music from Vivaldi, Bartok and Ri msk v-K orsako v. 1 -i The Symphony gives a Valentine's Day concert the sanieday at 8 p.m. with Ketcham conducting and Joseph Silverstein as soloist. Works include Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet," Bernstein's "West Side Story" and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3. And last but certainly not least, a Feb. 10 concert features solo violinist ' Isaac Stern and conductor Silverstein in a Beethoven Mozart Mendels- sohn program. The special benefit concert will be at 8 p.m. AH (concerts are in SymphortyHall,lZ3 West South Temple. For ' further information, call 533-6407. Composer actor Jester Hairston will conduct a program of his folk and spiritual music at Symphony Hall on Feb. 7. The performaners will be the combined choirs of six high schools in the Granite District. Tickets, at $3, may be bought at the hall (123 West South Temple) or the : Capitol Theater. ' THEATRE Promised Valley Playhouse (132 South State) presents Damon Run-yon Run-yon gangland musical "Guys and Dolls" Wednesday-Saturday through March 2 at 7 :30 p.m. A Feb. 23 matinee is at 2 p.m. Alan Avckbourn's "Table Man- ners" is about the complications that interfere with a "nice, dirty weekend" between a woman and her brother-in-law. It plays at the Babcock Theatre on the University of Utah campus on Feb. 7-9 and 12-16 at 8 p.m. Matinees are on Feb. 12 (5 p.m. ) and Feb. 16 (2 p.m. ) "Hansel and Gretel" is presented by the Plum Alley Theatre of Promised Valley Playhouse (132 South State). It plays Wednesday to Saturday through Feb. 23. Times are 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday through Saturday and a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. , The Salt Lake Acting Company will present "Wave's Home for Hurtin' Tammies," about a home for unwed mothers, Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. through Feb. 23. Sunday shows on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. The play is at 168 West Fifth North. "Rain," the famous story of Sadie Thompson and Reverend Davidson, plays Friday to Sunday through Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for the play, in the Courage Theater at Westminster College. The Triad Center presents the ice show "Grand Old Broads of Broadway" Feb. 1 to 23, except Sundays, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4.50, available at the Center or Datatix outlets. "Candide" uses Leonard Bernstein's music and Voltaire's classic story of the naive young man in "the best of all possible worlds." It opens at Pioneer Memorial Theater on Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. ETCETERA - ' The Kimball Art Center presents pre-sents nationally-known watercolorist Bert Seabourn and his daughter, printmaker Connie Seabourn Ragan. The exhibit runs to Feb. 27. Also featured is stained-glass artist Wade Sabat. Seabourn is scheduled to appear at the Art Center on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. and will illustrate his painting technique. An artist's reception on Feb.. 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. will feature Seabourn, Ragan and Sabat. David Copperfield can make the Statue of Liberty disappear, but he makes audiences appear. He will appear in two Capitol Theatre shows (6 and 8 :30 p.m.) on Feb. 12, Tuesday. Tickets at $10-13-16 are available at the Capitol and ZCMI Datatix outlets. Hey Vern! Jim "Earnest" Varney (famous for his Cream O' Weber commercials) appears at Salt Lake's comedy club, Cartoons (2201 Highland Drive, behind Peter Piper's Pizza. ) Shows are Feb. 8-9, with an 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. show each night. Reserved tickets are $8. At the Salt Palace, the truck and tractor pull event takes place on Feb. 8-10. Also, the Utah Boat, Sports and Travel Show begins on Feb. 13. The Utah Jazz play Atlanta at the Salt Palace on Feb. 13. On another sports front, the U. of U. women's gymnastics team meets Utah State on Feb. 9 at the Special Events Center at 7 :30 p.m. Tickets available at the center and Datatix outlets.
