Show David Gopperfield to appear " t V i 1 1 V f . Sali Lake City is in for an early Valentine treat on Feb. 12 when "The Migic of David Copper-field" Copper-field" comes to the Capitol Theatre. Aside from his technique as a magician, Copperfield's style and personality add a beguiling aspect to the show. There will be performances at 6 and 8:30 p.m. David Copperfield has elevated the art of magic to a new dimension. At age 12 he became the youngest pei-son ever admitted admit-ted into the Socieiy of American Magicians; by 16 he was teaching magic at New York University; at 18 he starred in the longest-running original musical comedy in the history of Chicago theatre; in 1978 at age 20 he starred in his first TV special. At 23 he was named Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts; at 24 he was the American Guild of Variety Artists' Entertainer of the Year and gave a command performance at the White House. In 1982 David established Project Magic, a non-profit organization that used magic as a therapeutic tool to help disabled patients. This form of therapy is presently being used in hospitals throughout the world to assist patients in coordination, cognitive skills and in development of self-esteem through magic. Among Copperfield's credits are the vanishing of a seven-ton jet airplane, the levitating of a $60,000 Ferrari, the de-materializing of the entire rock group Earth, Wind and Fire, and the vanishing of Statue of Liberty.
