Show Miners Drop Two As Season Continues in the game, Steve Toly tied the score making the first from the free throw line; however he missed the second shot, North Rich got the rebound and made a basket, giving them a 51-49 lead. With less than fifteen seconds on the clock, Miner Trent Leavitt, who scored fourteen points in the game, missed what would have been the tying basket. "They were competitive with us," said Miner Coach Bruce Reid, "but they outscored us by eleven points from the free throw line." North Rich went 18 for 25 from the line; Park City, 7 for 14. The struggling Park High Miners dropped two more games over the weekend, Friday night in an exciting close contest against regional region-al rival North Rich and the following night against Alta-mont Alta-mont in what could safely be described as a wipe-out. North Rich edged the Miners by three points, 52-49; the roof fell in Saturday night when Alta- mont breezed past Park City and won by a twenty-five point margin, 76-41. Although North Rich led Park City throughout most of Friday night's home game, the Miners went to a full-court press in the final period and tied the score at 49-49 as the closing seconds ticked off the clock. Earlier in the period the Miners had been down by twelve points. With less than a minute left It was a game of sharp contrasts Saturday night. Bruce Reid said the Alta-mont Alta-mont coach told him it was the best game the Longhorns had played all season; Coach Reid told The Record it was the worst game the Miners had played in a very long time. "I told the kids after the game to forget it," said Coach Reid, "Just pretend it never happened. Nothing good can come after a game like this." Park City shot a disappointing disappoint-ing 24 percent from the field; Altamont shot over 50 percent during the first half. "We were very, very flat," Coach Reid reflected, "an uninspired game. ..a very poor performance." Altamont led 17-4 at the end of the first quarter and 40-14 at halftime. Park City is now three and seven, overall, and one and three in league action. The Miners travel to Kamas Friday night to face South Summit in a game beginning ' at 7:30. The Wildcats, who defeated Park City earlier this season, have won three games and lost one in Region Eleven play. |
