Show District Approves Marsac Deal V City -manager Arlene Loble notified the school district Tuesday the city would accept the district's latest counter offer for the Marsac School property with a few changes in the terms. The city agreed to a $1,350,000 purchase price for the property but instead of sharing in the profits after a five-year period, trie city requested a three-year period. The purchase requires re-quires $270,000 down with the balance due in timely increments over the next two years. The city then agreed to split any profits with the district from the sale of the property on a 50-50 basis less interest and a figured inflation inflat-ion factor. City officials never really waivered in their plans to purchase the site but shcool board member Gene Lambert's Lam-bert's "50-50" profit split emerged as a stumbling block in cementing the deal. It wasn't until Lambert himself sat down with city officials to explain his reasoning that the issue was settled. Lambert had put himself out on a limb refusing to budge from his idea even though fellow board members mem-bers expressed doubt as to its acceptance. Though his original recommendation is somewhat watered down Lambert said he was satisfied satis-fied with the final offer and joined fellow board members in approving the sale. "I'm pretty much satisifed with the possible reservation that the city might elect to sell the property after the three year period but our five year offer was arbitrarily selected anyway," said Lambert. Lam-bert. He said his talks with the city went well and he noted they were important in furthering relations between the school district and the city, "One of the things we want is a good cooperative spirit with the city. I didn't want the offer to be viewed as a negative thing that would drive a wedge between bet-ween us. I didn't see it as a competition for tax dollars between the district and the city but rather as a means to facilitate an end to benefit taxpayers." |
