Show r which connect the reservoirs with the distributive system, so as to make possible the supplying' of abundant water to present consumers and to those who have appealed for water extensions but have been denied that right by reason of the limited capacity of conduit, reservoir reser-voir and distributive mains. There are some six or seven miles of extensions applied for and under consideration by the city waterworks, including the promised extension to West Ogden, but none of these urgent demands can be satisfied until the people provide the means for,' enlarging the water system. There is to be no campaign made to push the bond issue through. If the people desire to have a modern water system, they are invited to avail themselves of this opportunity. They will not be drawn to the polls, buttonholed or labored with to vote the bonds. The facts will be presented for their consideration so that the responsibility for whatever action they see fit to take will rest with them. The city has the water system. It is a public utility. The question is : Shall the system be placed in such condition as to meet the demands de-mands for water? If tho bonds are voted, much of the work will be performed at a season of the year when employment for common labor is scarce. All the rock work in the canyon and most of the ditching throughout the city can be done this winter, so that those in need of employment employ-ment may find something to do. Of course, the supplying of opportunities oppor-tunities for the employment of our working people does not enter into the merits of the bond issue, but that such employment will bo afforded should not be overlooked. FOR THE WATERWORKS. f. The city administration has kecided to ask the taxpayers of Ogden to vote a bond issue of $100,000 for the improvement of the city water system. The plan is to build a new conduit from the new city reservoir to Cold Water canyon, to connect with a dam to be placed in the bed of the creek for the purpose of catching and storing the seepage water. With the completion of this conduit in the fall, the old conduit to Wheeler Canyon is to be repaired and made more serviceable as an aqueduct. In addition to this new work, it is proposed to enlarge the mains |
