Show CLOSING OF SHOPS IS TALKED LOCAL OFFICIALS TAKE COGNI-t COGNI-t ZANCE OF THE RUMORS. : Work in All Departments Said to be I Well Up Approach of the End . of the Railroad, Year. !l ' When questioned by a Standard reporter re-porter as to rumors in circulation regarding re-garding the closing down of the local Southern Pacific shops between June 22. the next payday, and July 1. u prominent official said: "No such orders have been received up to the present time and' really we do not expect instructions of that nature na-ture from those in authority. The present month is the last of the railroad rail-road year, and while expenses of all kinds are being reduced to the minimum, mini-mum, I do not believe the shops will be closed down except on Saturdays. Notwithstanding the fact that shop work is pretty well up in every department, depart-ment, and that the motive power on the. various roads centering at Ogden is in splendid shape for the heavy business expected during the fall months, there has been no reduction in. the shop force and most of the men are kept to work on the" nine-hour basis. "While an order to close the siops for a week is, of course, within the range of possibilites, I do not believe il will be issued, and I am hopeful that Saturday layoffs will cease after the beginning of the new railroad year." |
