Veterans of the Spanish-American war held their annual an-nual state encampment Monday in I. O. O. F. hall in an enthusiastic manner. man-ner. There wore present delegations from E. A. Wedgwood camp of Salt Lake City and Harry Young camp of Ogden, and the exercises commemorative commemor-ative of the recent event were also well attended with veterans not delegates. dele-gates. The session opened at 3 o'clock, o'-clock, and after the usual routine business bus-iness connected with the conduct of the order had -been carried out, officers offi-cers of the. department of Utah were elected for the ensuing year as follows: fol-lows: Rev. O. , W. McCrcery of Ogden. commander; Elmer Johnson of Salt Lake City, senior vice commander; Mr. Granger of Salt Lake City, Junior vice commander; Charles Manzel of Ogden, quartermaster; W. G. Hampton Hamp-ton of Ogden. adjutant; E. W. Batch- ellor of Ogden. surgeon; N. M. Gold- en of Ogden, chaplain. Enthusiastic speeches were made by many of those present, and tho vet-eransvled vet-eransvled with one another in renewing re-newing old associations. A. N. Walton of Ogden and Bert Holbcrt of Salt Lake were elected delegates del-egates to the national encampment to be held in Tacoma early In September, Septem-ber, Matters connected with the part to be taken by the Spanish war veter- j ans in the coming national G. A. R. ! encampment here were passed over for a later meeting. In the evening, merriment was tho order of the occasion, and music and dancing were indulged in until a late hour. Wives, sisters and sweethearts were in attendance, and no one was permitted to depart until he had taken a prominent part in the gaiety. About thirty veterans were present from Og- den, in addition to a largo number of ladies. |
