Show oo i MRS. GOMPERS DIES IN WASHINGTON WASHINGTON, May 6. Mrs. Sam-uel Sam-uel Gompers, wife of the president of the American Federation of Labor, died at her home here tonight after a long illness. She was sixty-nine years of age and had been married more than half a century. Funeral services will be conducted here and the body will be taken to New York for burial Sunday. Sun-day. Q Mrs. Gompers was born in London and came to this country with her parents par-ents when eight years old. Three years later she began work as a tobacco to-bacco stripper In tho factory where Mr. Gompers was employed as a cigar-maker. cigar-maker. She was married in 1867 at the ago of sixteen. Mrs. Gompers Js survived by three sons, Henry J., Samuel J., and Alexander Alex-ander J. Gompers. |
