Show IDAHO IMPORTS JERSEYGATTLE Farmers' Organize to Secure High Grade Producers for Dairy Herds PAYETTE, Ida., May 7 Purchase or 37 purebred Jersey daily cattle, o high,producing Stock, through at $10,-000 $10,-000 enterprise started last winter by the fann bureau and tho Farmers' Cooperation Co-operation creamery, Is a second long step toward putting Payette county on the dairy map In big letters. The first step was the organization of a bull associattion. The 37 new animals are the entire female herds of J. B. Stump and Son and of George Conner, of tho Wiila-nietto Wiila-nietto valley. They were bought by the Jersey Cattle Purchasing association, associa-tion, as a result of activities of the farm bureau dairy executive committee commit-tee and of the co-operative creamery, of which J. It. Brown is manager. County Agent P. T. Fortner and State Dairy Specialist F. It. Cammack of the University of Idaho extension division went to Oregon as the association's representatives, lo make the .purchase. Distribution of tho animals among Payette county dairymen was provided for by announcement of an aucttlon May 5. The 37 animals are 23 cows, six heifers heif-ers and eight calves, the calves being reserved lor boys' and bids' clubs. Tho Stump herd is a register of merit mer-it herd, known among Jersey cattle men all over the country. The Conner herd is on official test. Some of the cows have records as high as 750 pounds of butter fat In a year, and some of the heifers are from cows with records as high as 950 pounds of but-terfat. but-terfat. The $10,000 required for financing the venture was raised by representative representa-tive dairymen of the county through assistance of the banks. Dairymen of the county already have the males for htelr fine Jersey herds, through the organization of a bull association and purchase of bulls! closely related to the world champion' senior yearling heifer, Lula Alphea of Ashburn, with a record of more than 800 pounds of butterfat a year. "Payette is fast becoming recognized as a Jersey section," according to Mr. Cammack. "In a few years it will be ready to ship out somo of the best Jerseys of the breed." |
