To that end, the secretary's representative, represen-tative, Thomas G. Shearman will arrive May 13, prepared to go to tho forest with Mr. Hoggatt. Mr. Shearman is attorney in charge of forest appeals. Secretary Meredith has offered to detail a personal representative to accompany ac-company Mr. Hoggatt, editor of tho Great Divide, in a trip over the cast half of the Ashley National forest so that Mr. Hoggatt may demonstrate on the ground tho truth of his recent assertion as-sertion that tho territory in question Is "tlmberless. treeless and suitable for agricultural purposes," if tho latter Is willing to make tho field examination proposed by the secretary. Local forest officers stato that the area specifically described by Mr. Hoggatt Hog-gatt embraces a portion of tho main Unlta Kange; varies in elevation from 8,000 to 11,000 feet and Is characteristic characteris-tic of the Uinta and Wasatch ranges In tho quantity, species and distribution of the timber it supports. Recent ro-ports ro-ports show that at this lato date it is still deeply covered with snow. Tho area has been classified and all lands suitable for homesteadlng have been opened to entry. |
