Show PLANT GRASSES TO HOLD SANDS; MAY BUILD COMMUNITY If experiments contemplated by the Globe Grain & Milling company com-pany prove successful, tho building build-ing of a community consisting entirely en-tirely of workers at tho Globe mills will bo virtually assured, according ac-cording to announcements mado today by Manager Barnhnrt. Shifting sands In the vicinity of the mill make that location undesirable un-desirable at present for housing purposes, tho loose sands drifting Into houses whenever the wind blows, it is said. To copo with this condition, an effort will be made to plant thf grounds surrounding the mill wltu white clover, alfaha, field peas and oats, if this crop proves successful suc-cessful and succeeds in taking root in tho sand, grass will be planted noxt season. Tho idea of the -experiment Is to have plants that grow quickly planted first, with slower growing grass and lawn as the succeeding crop. By this means it la thought that the wind-blown sand feature of that vicinity will be remoed. Negotiations for suitable seed are now under way. and tho planting of experimental plots will take place in the near luturc, it is stated. Present plans indicate that a plot of each variety of seed will be planted. Another plot w.ll be planted with a mixture of seeas. By means of the results achieved In various plots, an Idea of which plant is most suitable for holding the sand will be determined, deter-mined, it ts stated. Tho cement distributing tower, which has been in operation for the construction of tho warehouse, elevators and other buildings at the Globe site, has been moved to a point where it will be used foi the construction of tho flour mill. "Work on tins unit is expected to start about May 1. Work has progressed on the office building, this unit being completed but for the terra rot .a surfacing and other finishing touches. |
