Show .;.J j, i A report made by a committee on t'r'ij .. housing in Ogden cjty, was presented vy t o the Ogden chamber of commerce Jttifp D" O J- Stilwoll, secretary, at hoou AmjJ1 today. Its consideration resulted in a motion adopted unanimously whereby jMpr ' i subsidiary corporation acting under ihe auspices and with the moral back-t back-t -j ; tng of the chamber will draw up arti- ' cles of incorporation and go Into the I'jjfyL .business of reducing the overcrowded eijffl ; condition of Ogden city. T,"!. '; Features of the report were to the ' ji' : effect that the committee appointed to' go exhaustively into the matter had ob-. ob-. ; ; tained options on ground necessary for the construction of about fifty houses, and that thore are at present manyj . jw ., more reasonably priced lots which may be easily secured, and that finan-j ' , ' cial backing'of a house building pro, gram had been received from twenty-j twenty-j ' five prominent men of the city; that) contractors have been Interviewed' with regard to plans, materials, and 1 , general specifications. I One responsible business man I whose employes have found it difficult diffi-cult to secure homes hero is ready to contract for the erection of twelve three-room houses in West Ogden at a cost of 10 per cent above the actual cost of erection. Discussion in the chamber this noon brought out the strongly expressed opinion that it would not be wise for the chamber of commerce to pledge its property and credit In order to go into any kind of commercial activity and . that the proposal made by the housing committee is so fair and reasonable, reas-onable, and its aims so advantageous I for the community, that it ought not altogether to be lost. It was decided IMiat the better method would be for the committee to see the financial, backers again and go thoroughly into the matter of drawing up articles of i incorporation for a company to go Into! the house building business with thej moral support and continual oversight: of the local chamber of commerce. I "It is a platitude to say that such an organization is, needed," said Mr. Stilwell after the meeting to a Stand-art-Examiner representative, "and I am cortain that wo can get all the financial backing that Is necessary and proceed in such a way that tho corporation will be a perfectly safe investment in-vestment for all concerned, for thoso who put their money into tho company, com-pany, and for thoso who contract to buy houses from us. "Tho committee will report again at ;a meeting of the chamber 'of com-I com-I merce next week when full details of 'what plans for the selling of houses and the renting of them will be made known to the public. You may say, however, that there is every prospect I of the corporation being formed and i entering into a most successful business busi-ness which will bring a reasonable I profit to the stockholders and grent , benefit and relief to this crowded community." |
