Show In Forest Service and Biological Survey Experts in Conference Con-ference Here Through a. conference held. between forest -service and biological survey experts ex-perts yesterday at the forest service headquarters, plans for the establishing establish-ing of. permanent rights for elk in the Jackson Hole country, were tentatively tenta-tively discussed. Major B. A. Goldman, of the biological biologi-cal survey,' and J.- W. Kelson, grazing examiner for the forest service, with offices-at Washington, met with I. F. Kneipp, "district forester. Major Goldman Gold-man arrived yesterday, from Jackson Hole country, where for nearly two months, he has been s.tud.ving winter conditions of elk In that region. He reports them a3 halving wintered well with the exception that there has been a falling off of the fall calves. Although Al-though the elk have cleaned up the ranges pretty, well, It Is thought that they will not experience great shortage short-age before spring breaks. Major Goldman and Inspector Nelson Nel-son contemplato a trip to the elk country coun-try this summer to make a study of elk during ihat time of the year. After completing the summer study recommendations as to the establishment establish-ment of permanent grazing lands for elk that will inconvenience stock as little as possible, will bo submitted he stated. He also said that definite plans for management of elk herds would bo recommended. |
