Show uu ON THE HINDENBURG LINE. On the north end of the fighting in France, the British are within a few yards of what Is known as the Hinden-burg Hinden-burg line. After the battle of the Somrae In 1916, when the Germans retreated lo a previously prepared position, the new defense became known as the HIndenburg lino. General Byng, by his surpriso attack last .year, moved across the line to the outskirts of Cambral and for a time the British held a sector of the HIndenburg line. Then came the great drive of March 21, this year, which tumbled tho British Brit-ish back from two miles to forty miles. Between Moy and Rameval, the Germans Ger-mans made an extreme gain of forty miles But near Arras, the enemy bent the line only two miles forward. Tn this sector the troops of Halg have been nibbling until thc once more are o) top of the HinJeriburg lin;- At Mont hy-le-Preux, tho British by a sudden thrust, could cross the German defenses in five minutes. There is an oppnitunity for a break through in the region of Guenraappe, Wancoun and CroisMles. |
