Fort Harrison, Indiana, in a letter to Guy KruStbosch, tells of his army life and of his promotion to corporal. Snider Sni-der was employed at the Utah Canning Can-ning company. Ho was raised by his grandmother at West Ogden. He was an active member of tho Knights of Columbus. Tho loiter follows: "Dear John and Rindio: "Since I havo been in the army, I have had somo great times as well as some grief. When we first landed a. Camp Lewis everything was new to me, hut they were easy on us. They Just took the rough spots off there and the drilling wasn't very hard. "Wo were quarantined to the depot brigade all the time we were thore. But the depot brigade at Camp Lewis is larger than the whole fort here. There were about 51.000 recruits there at one time, so you see we were not alone. . "We had three bands there that were playing all the time, and two pictures pic-tures shows that wc could go to as well as the Y. M. C. A. but one day they called out a bunch and told them that they were going to Camp Kearny. That night wo had a big banquet and farewell from Co. 7. But I dida't go with the Camp Kearny boys as tho next day I was notified that I was going to Fort Harrison. Left Camp With Guard. "We left Camp Lewis at about 5:30 that night with a guard , in both ends of the car. That's when we realized that wc wore in tho army. "Everything went fine till wo got to Lincoln, Neb., and they wouldn't have anything to do with us. If they had lot us go out wc would have turned the town up-side down. They treated us cool .until wc got to St. Louis where the Y. M. C. A. had enough ice cream and cake to feed a regiment. "At 1 o'clock the next morning wo arrived at Fort Harrison. I was put in company B. Here wo had the worst captain in tho regiment. He would givo us two weeks In the Jug If wo didn't look straight rit him. They call us the 34th jail birds and Captain Brown's dogs. "Wo had two days drill with gas masks, and if one never did hate the Germans he would If ho had to wear a gas mask. Then we had two days on the rifle range, but the way some of the men shot, the Germans will be safe when we get there. "I was promoted to corporal tho 23rd of July, so I'll havo a chance to lead seven men In the scrap anyway. And here's hoping we get over there soon and get a crack at them.
