These are for the divisions of American Ameri-can troops along the line and distribution distribu-tion will be started immediately by means of motor trucks and the railroads. rail-roads. Hundreds of soldiers have been pressed Into service to assist the civilian civ-ilian mail employes during the Christmas Christ-mas rush. Word has reached the transportation bureau of the Third army that more than 1,200 Knights of Columbus and j Y. M. C. A. entertainers are on the way to the occupied territory by special spe-cial train to give entertainments for the soldiers at various points on Christmas eve and Christmas day. To add to the cheer of the soldiers :on Christmas orders have been issued that drills will be dispensed with on Christmas, and for a week there will be drills only in the morning. With their afternoons free the soldiers are planning many sight-seeing trips. COBLENZ, Dec. 23. (By The Associated Press) Snow fell early this morning on the high lands east of Coblenz, within the bridgehead area occupied by the First division. On the lowlands the snow melted quickly, but in the hills the snow lasted long enough for the soldiers to do some snow balling. The first all -American dance east of the Rhine took place Saturday night with General Pershing and General Hlnes looking on for a short time. The dance was given by officers of the , Third corps, whose headquarters is at Neuwied. About a hundred nurses from Coblenz and officers from divisions di-visions along the Rhine attended the affair, the music for which was furnished fur-nished by an orchestra composed of soldiers. oo |
