Show AlfTtr ACCIDENT IN SILT LIE CITY SALT LAKE, Dec. 25. Hurled to the pavement when their automobile crashed into the curbing on the southeast south-east corner of the Intersection of Fifth East and Second South streets last ! night, Joseph Bergstrom, 132S Fifth East street, wns instantly killed and his companion, C. L. Miller, residing i at the same address, sustained a fracture frac-ture at the base of the skull and num- erous bruises about his head and body. I According to George H. Muir, 123 South Fifth East street, who witnessed the accident, Miller was driving the car east on Second South street at a high rate of speed and when nearly at, the middle of the intersection of Fifth East and Second South streets attempted to make the turn southward, south-ward, with the result that his machine skidded to the curbing and turned completely over twice, throwing the men heavily to the sidewalk. Bergstrom Berg-strom was dead before Mr. Muir could reach him and Miller wa3 in an unconscious un-conscious condition. The machine was demolished. .Miller is a sleamfitter by trade and formerly kept a plumbing shop on South Slate street After going out of business he worked at his trade for some years in Salt Lake and recently re-cently began operating in the real estate es-tate business in a small way. He is unmarried. Bergstrom was a' painter, paper-hanger paper-hanger and decorator by trade and subcontracted most of his work from the Salt Lake Paint & Glass company. He was employed by the Z. C. M. I. for many years. His widow and two children survive him. His oldest son, Harold, IS years of age. was summoned sum-moned lo police headquarters after the accident occurred and nearly collapsed when informed that his father was dead. He first though was of his mother and he sobbed that he was afraid the news would kill her. Early this morning Miller became partly .revived and remained in a semi-iconscious semi-iconscious condition Hospital attaches at-taches reported he might recover, although al-though his condition was regarded as critical. Marked improvement in the condition condi-tion of Major H. M. H. Lund and his wife, who sustained broken collar bones when they were thrown from their machine when another car collided col-lided with th,em south of Twenty-fifth South street on State street Sunday night, was reported from the family residence last night. |
