Peck is from Sewickley, Pa. CHRISTWIflS TREES NOT TO BE CUT m THE CITY Persons eager for Christmas trees apparently are seeking to acquire them by false pretense. Reports have been made to the local forestry bureau that people, apprehended appre-hended during the last few days, cutting cut-ting Christmas trees on Malan's Heights, the big promontory jutting out from Observation peak, have explained ex-plained their presence by declaring j that they had been given permission by 'the forestry department. "This department has given no permission per-mission to cut Christmas trees." said L. F. Kneipp, district forester this morning. "The government has no control con-trol over that property. The nearest forest reserve land is thirty miles north of Ogden too far to make a pilgrimage pil-grimage for a Christmas tree. The property east or the city is privately owned and no permits could possibly be issued, either verbally or written, from the forestry department," Those who are cutting the Christmas trees are guilty of a double offense. The owners of the property object and the city also provided against the de- ( struction or removal of the trees be- j cause they act as watershed. Tho trees are of practical necessity at that I point. . . 00 |
