Show NEW MEASURES TO SAVE WHEAT NEW YORK, Dec. IS. Measures which are calculated to effect a saving sav-ing of considerably more than 16,000,-000 16,000,-000 bushels of wheat during the present pres-ent crop year are outlined in food administration ad-ministration regulations which are now being Issued to flour millers of the country, the milling division of the federal food administration announced here today. Every effort is being made to effect a maximum saving In wheat products to the end that ample supplies may be available for home, war and Allied requirements re-quirements and, If possible to accumulate accumu-late a surplus against future needs, it was explained. Tho announcement adds: "While reports of the agricultural department indicate the harvesting in this country during the present crop year of very large quantities of all kinds of cereals the increasing difficulties difficul-ties of transportation and the uncertainty uncer-tainty of the future emphasizes the Importance of providing surpluses during dur-ing times of plenty to meet anv possible pos-sible contingencies which might occur later. Flour millers will be limited in the amount of wheat from which a barrel of flour must be manufactured, under the new regulations. It Is believed a saving of wheat may be made in this way 'without seriously changing the present quality of the flour or Inconveniencing Incon-veniencing theconsuming public." the statement declares. nn- |
