Show LIBERTY MOTORS DOING M WORK Speed of ,130 Miles an Hour Is. Made by the New Airplanes. WASHINGTON, Oct 1 A most favorable fav-orable report on "de Havlland Four" airplanes with Llborty motors manufactured manu-factured in this country has been' made to Major General Kenly, chief of military aeronautics, by an officer of the air servlr.fi lust hank from France. The officers' report says the machines ma-chines compare favorably with the best British and French makes. The first planes arrived in Franco May 13 last and since then have been coming in ever-increasing numbers. Six weeks ago about 186 planes were arriving daily. Some changes were necessary at first, the officer said, but each succeeding suc-ceeding shipment showed better workmanship work-manship and a few changes were required. re-quired. "The plane and motor has become very popular with our pilots," said the report. "We obtained approximately approxi-mately 130 miles per hour at ground level with one plane and, without any special preparation, obtained an altitude al-titude of 10,000 feet in ten minutes and twenty-one seconds, full load, excepting ex-cepting bombs. We were able to loop, dive and other wise stunt these planes exactly as well as we would any Chas-see Chas-see plane. "The French minister of war thought so well of the 'Liberty motor that the under-secretary of state for aviation, I M. Du Mesnil, informed me that the French would gladly take every motor mo-tor we could produce which we could jliot use ourselves." |
