Show STATE FAIR IS NOT NOW PRESENTABLE i Many Ogden people journeyed to Salt Lake Sunday to visit the Utah ' State fair, advertised extensively as i "bigger and belter than ever, etc.." and came home with a feeling of keen disappointment. The reason was that the fair Is not quite all "there" and that money is being taken from expectant expec-tant people at the gates lo witness a fair grounds filled with confusion, clatter of hammers and attempts at arrangements for the reception of exhibits ex-hibits and displays. The fair was scheduled to open Saturday. If the Sunday offering was an example, money mon-ey must have been taken Saturday for the mere privilege of walking through the turnstiles. The far-sung United States war exhibit ex-hibit was at the fair and complete as advertised but it was housed up in three railroad cars, safe from the prying pry-ing eyes of the curious public, while a hugo banner on the race track grandstand grand-stand drew dozens of people to that , building in hope of seeing ihe exhibit, but in fact seeing nothing but a large spare room, decorated with allied flags and emptiness. The fish and game exhibit was readv and the horticultural exhibit was com"-plcte. com"-plcte. The agricultural college was on hand as usual with a good exposition. Thft hnt flnf etnnrlc n-r-r Irwl.,,-i and primed for business. But outside' of these items the only other perceptible percep-tible signs of the annual exposition was the eagerness of the gatekeepers td click the turnstiles. Workmen were busy selecting tacks and nails to hang the art exhibit and there was some evidence of completeness complete-ness about the Utah industries exhibit hardly enough, however, to arrest attention. Many people who do not live In Salt Lake have only a Sunday holiday to visit such an exposition and when thoy pay their money to get fooled they are inclined to repeat oft sung remarks of a caustic flavor about this brand of down-state foolery which doesn't sound llko good advertising. From ihe speed shown yesterday by the corps of heavies nailing up exposition expo-sition banners and rushing about the grounds in a fover of excitement, it might be correct to predict that the fair will be ready for a sight-seeing trip the latter part of this week. |
