Show HOTS AID HAS PERFORMED MOST EXCELLENT WORK The Children's Aid society held Its annual meeting Tuesday, April 17, at the home of the president, Mrs. Jas. R. Cooper. The annual meeting is always an open meeting, so tho friends of the society so-ciety may hear the reports of tho work, and keep In touch with the organization or-ganization and realize what their donations do-nations of money and clothing aro doing do-ing for tho unfortunate children of tho city and county. In connection with the report this year Superintendent Hinckley of the State Industrial school gave a very interesting in-teresting and instructive address on "The Conservation of Human Life." The report of the year, in part, follows: fol-lows: Our free dispensary over the Marshall Mar-shall Drug store, is open every Saturday Satur-day afternoon, with two members of tho society and a trained nurse in attendance. at-tendance. Tho nurse examines the child, who is taken to a physician, oculist oc-ulist or dentist, as the case requires. The doctors, dentists and druggists always give their services without charge and have always been ready to aid the society In any way. This is very much appreciated by the society. so-ciety. From April 21, 1916, to April 1, 1917, tho dispensary aided 85 families; number num-ber of children helped, 275; old garments gar-ments given out, 1,825; new garments distributed, 650; total. 2,475. New shoes and rubbers purchased, 263 pairs. Old thoes given out, 197 pairs. Old shoes repaired and given out, 36 pairs. Christmas dinners given out for 200 persons. Number of children remembered at Christmas, 132. Number of quarts of fruit given out, 710. Milk furnished during year for six babies. Number of children taken to doctor doc-tor or dentist, 50. i Child Welfare Exchange held at the High school building last August. During the three days of exchange 15 physicians, dentists and specialists gave their services freely and 98 children chil-dren were examined at this time. Several children have been placed in permanent homes. Some have been legally adopted. Four operations have been performed; four cases cared for in hospitals. Tho society feels very grateful to the press, pulpit, physicians, merchants, mer-chants, lodges, clubs and to each and evry Individual who has aided the society so-ciety in any way. The newly elected officers of the society so-ciety are: Mrs. Archie Bowman, president; pres-ident; Mrs. David Eccles, vice president; presi-dent; Mrs. A. V. Mcintosh, secretary; Mrs. J. W. Abbott, corresponding secretary, sec-retary, and MrB. W. G. Dalrymple, treasurer. |
