Dan KHMft' AT OHFHEUM SEASON'S BIGGEST HIT PLEASES SALT LAKERS "Katlnka," legitimate succossor to "Tho Firefly" and "High Jinks," has been sent on tour by Arthur Hammer-stein, Hammer-stein, following a year of sonsatlonal success on Broadway, and will be presented pre-sented at the Orphcum theatre, Monday, Mon-day, April 23. "Katlnka" Is the joint production of tho librottist, Otto Hauerbach, and tho composer Rudolf Frlml, who collaborated collab-orated so successfully on "The Firefly" Fire-fly" and later on "High Jinks" and "You're in Love." "Katlnka" is said to eclipse its predecessors, both in tho cleverness and humor of its lines, but in the lilt and tunefulness of its music Arthur Hammersteln, who has staged all three of the pieces, has surpassed sur-passed himself, according to tho critics, crit-ics, and "Katlnka" stood quite alone on Broadway last season in the gorgeous gor-geous elaborateness of its scenic equipment and the costuming of its principals and chorus. Tho play opens in a town in Russia, whero "Katlnka" is being forced into a disagreeable marriage with tho powerful pow-erful and elderly statesman, Boris. Her lover, Ivan, learns that Boris already has a wife, and so, on the wedding night, in tho midst of the festivities ho steals little Katlnka. away and tho two, acoompaniod by an American friend, sot out for Turkey In search of Mrs. Boris tho first. After a series ser-ies of exciting and ludicrous adventures adven-tures in Old Stamboul tho party learn that Mrs. Boris has gone to Vienna, and they follow her there. In the capital of Austrian gayety many farcical far-cical plot complications that have arisen are ironed out. Tho features of the musical score, which the audience whistles as it files out of tho theatre, after the fall of the final curtain, is "Racketty Coo" and "Allah's Holiday," the most catchy melodies of a decade. A large chorus adds charm to the many other musical musi-cal hits. Advertisement. nr -oo Go to the Alhambra tonight 5c, 10c, 15c a great Paramount Para-mount program and excellent music.
