Show I j MOTION PICTURES OF FLAG Hj MIsb Lillian Walker, Ogden's mo- H tion picture star, is to unfurl the big H flag to be raised on the Southern Pa- M clfic shops grounds tomorrow, accord- m ing to an announcement made this M morning by Assistant Superintendent H Fred C. Smith. Incidentally, the first H camera work to he done by the Ogden H Pictures corporation will be the tak- Hl ing of motion pictures of the flag Hl raising ceremonies. These will, in H all probability, be sent to one of the H big cinema news distributing compan- ies and given nation-wide publicity. !In announcing tho full program of the event, Mr. Smith stated that 300 small flags were to be placed within the folds of tho immense national em- blem purchased by the local South- HJ ) crn Pacific shopmen and that when Hl Miss Walker pulled the rope that Hj would unfurl tlie flag, these would flut- H v ter down to be caught by the onloolc- H ' ers. Ho also stated that tho shopmen H desired the boy scouts, school chil- Hl dren and general public to join with H them in celebrating tho occasion of H , the unfurling of thoir flag. Interest Hl in the event is already widespread, H not only in Ogden, but throughout the H territory of the Southern Pacific rail- H road. Hj The program will he opened prompt- Hj ly at 1:20 o'clock with a band concert by the Southern Pacific Mechanics' band of Ogden, 65 pieces, under tho direction of Frank E. Scott This will be the first concert appearanco of the organization and its program will be appropriate unto the day and the occasion. oc-casion. Immediately before 2 o'clock, eight stalwart shopmen, escorted by a squad of national guardsmen, will bear the flag from the office of Master Mas-ter Mechanic David HIckey to the flagpole, flag-pole, near which Miss Lillian Walker, the speakers of the day, the committee, commit-tee, the Southern Pacific band and a squad of riflemen from troop B, N. G. U., will occupy places of honor. Promptly at 2 o'clock, at a signal from Director Scott, the band will begin be-gin the rendition of "The Star Spangled Span-gled Banner," tho guardsmen will present pre-sent arms, and the flag will be started up tho 100-foot pole. The raising will bo so timed that tho flag will reach the top of the big bronze ball that surmounts the pole as the last bar of tho national anthem is being played. Then Miss Walker will pull the rope that will loose the flag and fling it to the breeze and the rifle squad will fire a salue of 21 guns. The speaking program will follow and Mayor Abbot R. Iieywood will introduce in-troduce the speakers: Tho Rev. Fath-er Fath-er P. M. Cushnahan, tho Rev. John E. Carver, Lieutenant Thornton, U. S. N and J. Earl Pardoe. Persons desiring to reach the grounds by automobile are advised to drive .west on Twenty-second street to the Southern Pacific oil tanks, through the gateway, at which a guide will be stationed, and to park thoir machines in a space that will bo reserved re-served for them. Pedestrians can best reach tho grounds by way of the Twenty-fourth street viaduct, walking down stairways near the middle of the structure. |
