Show PUBLIC IIEfPl" IT IT BEFORE HENHYDR V Mayor Abbot R. Heywood was asked today whether he approved of the recommendation rec-ommendation of the safety subcommittee, subcommit-tee, of which O. J. Stilwell is chairman planning ways to reduce the high cost of living, to have the farmers and gardeners gar-deners back their wagons against the curb on the south and west sides of the city hall square and there sell their produce direct to the public, and he was asked whether this plan would be allowed by tho city commission. The mayor replied: "We are not prepared to take up that matter at this time." Mayor Heywood was reminded that the work of the safety committee-was meeting with public commendation and that the recommendation for tho public market was tho net result, as far as known. The mayor replied: "Tho committee so far has not taken us into its confidence regarding the plan, which can como up at any time." The commission meets tonight. The safety committee's plan will probably be laid before the mayor and his two colleagues. |
