Wilson's Last Speech. President Wilson, at Long Branch, will mako his last speech before nn audience from his home state. Every Democratic county in New Jersey will send delegates to Shadow Lawn. Both candidates will spend the two days that Intervene before election quietly, the president at Shadow Lawn and Mr. Hughes at the hotel where he has made his Ne,w York headquarters since ho left Washington. They will receive the returns at these places. Hanly Ends Campaign. J. Frank Hanly, the Prohibition residential candidate, will reach his home in Indianapolis tonight after a final day of speech-making through Indiana. Since Sepetmber 8 Mr. Hanly Han-ly has traveled nearly 20,000, through thirty-four states. The Socialist candidate, Allan L. Benson, who has made campaign , speeches in almost every part of the country, is today in Kansas City, Mo. , Mr. Hughes, the Republican candi- , date, holds tho record for campaign . journeys. When ho reached New i York yesterday ho had made four distinct dis-tinct trips, which, sinco August, have carried him through thirty-threo states and a distance of about 28,000 miles. None of tho president's trips were as long as those of his rival, and most of them were made to somo specific point for tho purpose of delivering deliv-ering one principal address. President Wilson's campaign has had the assistance of his cabinet members mem-bers and of Vice President Marshall, while Mr. Hughes enjoyed the unique distinction of having speeches made for him by two former occupants of tho Whito HoUso, William H. Taft and Theodoro , Roosevelt. Colonel Roosevelt made his last speech here last night. Women Campaigners Return. The increase In the number of states where women may voto for president this year has given women a greater part in this campaign than over before. The most extensive campaign cam-paign trip over undertaken for women political workers ended hero last night when a special train brought back the women who have been traveling trav-eling through the western states soliciting so-liciting women votes for Mr. Hughes. They have journeyed 14,000 miles and addressed women in 28 states. |
