Show oo E. H. SOTHERN' MAKES MOTION PICTURE DEBUT E. H. Sothern, the world's most famous actor makes his debut in motion mo-tion pictures in the Vitagraph Blue Ribbon Feature, "The Chattel," which is the attraction at the Ogden theater on Tuesday. Mr. Sothern was born at New Orleans Or-leans and is the son of the late E. A. Sothern of "Lord Dundreary" fame. He was educated in England and following fol-lowing his father's footsteps he ap-Ipeared ap-Ipeared first in Boston In a playlet called "Brother Sam," which the elder in ii i ' a BgBa Sothern was producing. He then played Avith the late John E. McCul-lough McCul-lough for a season, later going to Lon-1 don and appearing In productions j there. Returning to the United States, ho toured the country In a repertoire of plays, following which he was seen re-' peatedly in New York theaters In ( various plays as leading man, mostly iu romantic dramas. In 1903 ho became co-star with Julia Marlowe under the direction of Charles Frohman, which was practically practi-cally the beginning of his career as about 1906 he was under the direc- j a Shakespearean star. Beginning about 190G ho was under the direc- tion of the Schuberts. His industri-! ous career included several European t tours and also many revivals of his j earlier successes. I The three motion pictures in which i R Mr. Sothern, appears for Vitagraph, I of which "The Chattel" is the first, will form his last public appearance. I When he is through with his work at h the Vitagraph, Mr. Sothern will retire to private life, taking up his abode In ' England with his wife, Julia Mar-1 lowe. ' |
