Show mm give tb HEWS OF LOCAL Rev. F. G. Brainerd As remarkable as have been the Henry Ostrom meetings as to the number of people who have expressed a decision to live a Christian life, they havo also been distinguished by two other features of tho most permanent perma-nent value, viz- With the most positive posi-tive and illuminating teaching there has been a never varying gracious-ness gracious-ness of spirit and considerateness of others that have exemplified the positive posi-tive yet sympathetic teachings of Jesus. Another most vital feature is the extraordinary general attitude of serious seri-ous thoughtiulness awakened all over tho city in churches of all faiths and the quickening of the lives of member: mem-ber: of churches to such a degree that tho whole enure life and activity in our city i sgoing to be transformed to such a degree that the close of these special meetings will mark the real beginning of a continuous activity activ-ity of life and service. The value and far reaching ofects of tho meetings meet-ings are Inestimable. (Signed) FRANK G. BRAINERD Congregational Church. Rev. G. A. Rassweiler. Rev Henry Ostrom has been with us for ono month and has certainly proved himself a thorough Christian gentleman in every way. As a speak er ne is eloquent, versatile, thoughtful, thought-ful, inspiring, as well as entertaining. As a personality he is quickening, uplifting up-lifting and spiritually impelling. His labors In our city have been a great blessing in many ways. He has Bhown that Christianity is not a matter of church membership or ceremony, but a real spiritual life within tho soul. His labors have proved that the Gospel is still "The power of God unto salvation to all that believe." He has preached a positive posi-tive gospel avoiding controversy and declaring Chribt as our only hope of Salvation. These meetings havo also demonstrated demon-strated the fact that the various churches aro not antagonizing eaca other as some have vainly supposed, but that they are only various divisions divis-ions of tho same army working harmoniously har-moniously toward tho same goal, under un-der the same colors, and following the leadership of the same "Captain of our Salvation." Evangelism has also been given its true place In the work of the church, and it may be confidently expected that the presentation of tho Gospel as a direct appeal to the individual conscience con-science will be moro prominent In our church activities horenfter, and revival re-vival meetings be far more popular than heretofore. In the shop and open air meetings, tlie evangelist has shown that religion is not a matter of sacied place or sacred building, or of set ritual, but a matter of everyday life, something that develops even better in the fresh air than in the cloister. Ho has certainly cer-tainly furthered the religion of ev-eryday ev-eryday affairs. Mr. Albert Simpson Reltz and Mr. Rockej', by their delightful singing of the Gospel songs, have given us a taste for music which is a religious appeal rather than a mere artistic display. dis-play. They havo put new zest Into the congregational singing of church hymns. When Rev. Ostrom and his helpers leave us they will (alee with them our profound gratitude for their unselfish un-selfish service in our midst, and will leave us greatly in their dobt for the inspiration, the uplift, the moral quickening, and the grace of salvation salva-tion which have come to so many. Rev. G. F. Rassweiler. Orange Lemon The evangelistic campaign which has been conducted in the: Union Tabernacle during tho month of March, has been inspiring and helpful to all who have attended. It has exceeded ex-ceeded the expectations of the committee com-mittee having in charge plans and arrangements I am confident that the work which has been accomplished accomplish-ed is not of a temporary nature, but will continue on and prove an everlasting ever-lasting benefit to the moral and spiritual spir-itual uplift of the city. The churches united In this campaign cam-paign havo shown an unselfish denominational de-nominational spirit which is gratifying gratify-ing to all and has placed thern in an enviable position for the accomplishment accomplish-ment of big things in the future. The evangelist, Henry Ostrom, is a convincing speaker, an ardent and tireless worker He is truly one of The Tabernacle Under Construction the great evangelists of tho world today. to-day. (Signed) ORANGE LEMON. John Edward Carver. Evangelism has ever been the life of the church. The awakening of tho spiritual life In the youth of our land and the calling of mature life to answer an-swer the call of God and clear dutj' is ever the great onward step toward the Kingdom of God. The development develop-ment of that Kingdom the Christ likened lik-ened to the unfolding of the power of the seea. il ib suent ana "coinotn not with observation." It is natural therefore that we should look for the greatest renult of any evangelistlo wcrk to develop on through the years. There lias been ample results In the past few weeks to more than answer fhe hopes of the Ostrom meetings. meet-ings. The future years we are sure will reveal a continuation of this ef-foit. ef-foit. (Signed) JOHN EDWARD CARVER First Baptist Church. For tho first time in the history of the evangelical churches of Ogden, there has been a united campaign in the interest of one common cause. The coming of Dr. Henry Ostrom and his party, to Ogden, marked a new day in the interest of all the Protestant Pro-testant churches of this city. The Christian people of the city havo come to know each other as never nev-er before, and there is a greater spirit of co-operation in Christian work, with a willingness to overlook differences, differ-ences, and magnify our common interests, in-terests, and at the same time work persistently in the interest of others. Dr. Ostrom has been a leader who has sought to, and in a most remarkable remark-able way, to my mind, haB succeeded, in uniting the ohrlstian forces of our city in one common cause, namely tho uplift of humanity. The difficulties in tho way of such a campaign in any city aro many; in an especial mannor is this truo whoro such meetings havo not boon held bo. fore. To me tho consenting of Dr. Ostrom to come to Ogden at this time has meant more to our city than wo will ever be able to estimate, in the good results brought about by tho co-operation of our Christian forcos, and is only seconded by the strong gospel messages that have been dellvored to tho great number of people that have attended the services. The absence of the spectacular and strong emotional features have been very gratifying to me, and have been a great aid to the work, for It has meant the exaltation, not of men, but the gospel and its power to save from sin, (Signed) Geoige F. Lowe, pastor First Baptist Church. |
