Show DEMOCRATS ASSAIL REPUBLICANS 1 CITY AND STATE Shortly after 2 o'clock this afternoon, after-noon, about fifty Democrats met In a county convention at tho court house. Some had credentials, and some did not, but all wore given a voice in the deliberations. The object of the convention was to elect fifty delegates to the Democratic state convention In Salt Lake, April 5, which convention will select delegates dele-gates to the national convention of the Democratic party at St. Louis, .June 14. County Chairman W, H. Lowder called the convention to order and called State Senator Joseph Chez to act as chairman, Ralph Argubright was selected as secretary. There being be-ing 16 delegates to be selected from the country districts and 34 from the city tlstrlcts, the delegates from each of the two divisions assembled and proceeded to fill up tho lists. Referring to stato affairs. Chairman Chez said that it was high time the Republicans were ousted and the people peo-ple given a chance to rule. He thought the Republicans had' ran a reckless administration ot affairs In Utah for a numbej of years and he was of the change this year The speaker said that in the last campaign in Ogden City, a heavy debt had been saddled on the employes, a note of about $1,500 now being due for campaign purposes. He said he knew that tho employes of the city had been taxed to pay off the, debt, and that they had been given to understand that if they did not stand for the tax they would lose their positions. Mr. Chez said he knew of one Instance where an employe lost his job because he would not pay the tax. He said that ho was opposed to taxing employes em-ployes of the city for campaign expenses ex-penses and that he thought there should be a stop put to the practice. (Continued on Page 8.)
