Show FRANCHISE ON 29TK STREET STIRS DP HOMEOWNERS Respecting tho application of tho Ogden, Logan & Idaho Railway company com-pany for a franchise to build a spur track for freight from Washington avenue over Twenty-ninth streot and Jefforson avenue to the brick yards owned and operated by tho Ashton Firebrick & Tile company, protests, and protests agalnBt protests, aro being be-ing filed with tho city board of commissioners, com-missioners, all of which aro being referred re-ferred to the committee of the whole for consideration. When tho application for the franchise, fran-chise, accompanied by a proposed ordinance, ordi-nance, was presented to the board of commissioners, it was referred to the committeo of the wholo. Immediately following the presentation of the application, ap-plication, property owners on Twenty-ninth Twenty-ninth street filed protests, and a delegation dele-gation of residents on that street appeared ap-peared before tho board and verbally protested against the Improvement, contending that they had spent large sums of money to improve their homos and that they considered it would be to their injury to have a freight railway rail-way on their street. Individuals filed protests against the granting of the franchise, there being a determined effor.t to stop the street car people from building to tho brick yards. Sinco that time, there have been presented to the board protests against the protestants, one of such documents having been filed with the commis-. sioners today, signed by J. W. F. Volk-cr Volk-cr and ton other property owners on Twenty-ninth street, who contend that the freight track on the street will be for tho best interests of propery owners own-ers as it will encourage the brick company com-pany in Its enterprise, and that to grant the franchise for .the building of the spur track would be the means of getting street car service extended to "upper Twenty-ninth street" The entire question has been handed hand-ed to tho committee of tho whole but it is likely that no deflnlto action will be taken before the first of the year. This may be one of the first problems Mayor-elect Heywood and Commissioner Jones will have to consider. con-sider. It is possible, however, that the matter may bo passed upon when Mayor A. G. Fell returns from California. |
