Show DR. k E, WIW IN 1 LECTURE IT THE TABERNACLE I Dr. A E. Wlnship. one of America's beat known educators, appeared at tho Tabernacle last night as a Weber academy lecture course attraction and gave one of the best, lectures heard here In months. His subject was "Getting Into the Game," and but lit tlft of the time he occupied was without with-out value to his hearers. His statements state-ments were full of meaning and they were made even more clear by illustrative illus-trative stories, serious and humorous In his talk he combined many thoughts, conclusions and stories gained through a dcp study of almost al-most every condition of llfo In many countries One of his main conclusions, conclu-sions, he said, was that the trend of affairs is for constnnt progress and that the great things of tho future cannot be built up by the same methods meth-ods that have been used In the past. This reference was made eseciaJl forceful with regard to the present and future systems of education and tho speaker was pspeclally strong In his declaration that a revolution In educational methods was neeessarv and that it had already started Speaking further, he advocated the same lines of education for the city and country schools, saying "There is at present a great difference between education in the city and country schools." The former is a study of human nature and the latter mainly one of nature. What the fanner needs Is to study human nature. Then he will "get into the game" 'and will know as much about marketing as he does about raising goods for the mar-" mar-" Thfi girls and hoys of today, he said must be trained for what the future wants of them and to do this they must discriminate in their cholc? of a courso of study. Referring to Ogden, Dr. Wlnship said, "I have been coming to Ogden frequently for the past 4o years It seems to me that Ogden has raad more progress In the past two years and there have been moro changes In the city in that time than in any five years before. T did not har time to visit the public schools But I would consider it a shame If there had not been many new things there, a great many betterments, and I presume there are " Early yesterday evening, Dr. Win ship and several members of thp Weber We-ber academy faculty were entertained at dinner in the academy dining room by members of tho domestic science classes. |
